KUCHING: Hock Seng Lee (HSL) has reported that the main electrical cables supplying power to the La Promenade Christmas Street decorations were cut and stolen overnight, resulting in a power outage at the festive display.
In a statement posted on its social media page today, HSL said its security personnel detected the outage around midnight yesterday.

Subsequent checks by the building team confirmed that the main electrical cables powering the Christmas Street trees had been deliberately cut and removed.
Senior mechanical and engineering officer at HSL Tower, Clinton Jawa Richardly, said repair works are currently underway.
“We’re working round-the-clock to repair the damage. While repairs are ongoing, the lights will remain switched off for safety reasons, likely for two nights. We aim to have the full Christmas Street décor back on by Dec 25,” he said.
Despite the setback, Clinton assured that scheduled Christmas Day events would proceed as planned.
“Scheduled events on Christmas Day, including the snowfall attraction and the free CJC Christmas Night Run at 6.45 pm, will go on as usual,” he said.
He also added that the mall’s security team is in the process of lodging a police report regarding the incident.
The theft has left the Christmas Street decorations temporarily unlit as restoration works continue.
