SARIKEI: A total of 1,164 students received school bags during the DSH School Bag Aid handover ceremony held at the SMK St Anthony’s hall here recently.
The event, organised by SMK St Anthony, was officiated by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Deputy Minister, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok assemblyman, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
According to Huang, this aid was part of the Student Character Development Programme, which has been implemented since 2019 to support students in rural areas.
He also expressed hope that this contribution would encourage and boost students’ confidence to continue learning more comfortably.

“I introduced the Student Character Development Programme to provide assistance such as school uniforms, bags and shoes to all students in the Repok area since 2019, and in Meradong since 2023.
“This year, the number of students receiving this assistance is 11,000. This aid is part of my ongoing commitment to safeguard the welfare of students here.
“I also hope that this contribution will motivate students to begin the school year with greater confidence and comfort,” he said in his speech.
He also extended his appreciation to the staff of SMK St. Anthony for their outstanding achievements in academics and co-curricular activities.
