SARIKEI: The long-standing tradition of festive house-to-house visits continues to serve as a vital bridge between leaders and the grassroots, providing a direct platform to listen to the people’s concerns and better understand their needs.

Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said his Chinese New Year (CNY) ground visits this year were aimed at strengthening engagement with the community while assessing local needs firsthand.

He said that such an approach must be sustained to ensure the welfare of residents in the district remains a priority.

“This practice should be continued from time to time so that the well-being of the people here is always given the attention it deserves,” he said when met during a recent house-to-house visit in conjunction with the CNY celebration.

Accompanied by staff from his Service Centre, Huang spent time interacting with residents in a warm and harmonious atmosphere, reflecting the festive spirit of unity and goodwill.

The Repok assemblyman added that CNY is no longer solely a celebration of the Chinese community, but a shared festivity embraced by Malaysians of diverse backgrounds, further strengthening ties between leaders and the people.

Among the dignitaries he visited were the homes of Penghulu Ley Kok Lun, Penghulu Yeu Chii Tung and Wong Hua Ting, while also mingling with members of the local community to celebrate the occasion together.
