SIBU: Due to numerous requests from the public, Lanang Member of Parliament, Alice Lau Kiong Yieng, held an event for the exchange of yellow gas cylinders to red or green gas cylinders at her service centre at Upper Lanang Road here on Saturday.

Her private secretary, Stanley Chiew, who took charge of the event, said only 100 red and green cylinders were available and limited to Lanang parliamentary constituency voters.

“Those eligible for the exchange have to be registered earlier on ‘first come, first-served’ basis due to the limited supply. They have to bring their empty yellow gas cylinders for the exchange.

“Due to the high demand for the exchange, we will do it again early next month,” he told reporters during the event.

Chiew added many yellow gas cylinder owners had difficulty in exchanging their empty yellow cylinders to either red or green ones due to rejections from gas supply vendors.

He fervently hoped the authority concerned would resolve the long outstanding issue as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, a gas user said due to the difficulty of exchanging his two empty gas yellow cylinders for a lengthy period of time, he had no choice but to buy a new red gas cylinder.

“Recently at my house, when I asked the gas supply vendor who came to my residential area at Jalan Ulu Sungei Merah, the reply was that the yellow gas cylinders still could not be exchanged.

“He had to wait for the green light from the company concerned.

“So, with no other alternative, I have paid RM210 for a red cylinder, and kept the two empty yellow gas cylinders at home,” he lamented.
