KUCHING: Hydrogen-powered public transport is set to arrive in Sarawak next year.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak was moving from planning to delivery in a tougher global economy.

“Next year, insya-Allah, we will have hydrogen-powered public transport, I think the first in this region, and we invite those who value execution, certainty and long-term partnership to move forward with us,” he added.

He said this when speaking at the ASEAN Sarawak Business and Economic Forum 2026 held at Hilton Hotel here today (Feb 12).

He said the push reflected Sarawak’s emphasis on execution as the global economy became more fragmented and less predictable.

“We are meeting at a time when the global economy is more fragmented, more constrained, and less predictable than it has been in decades. Capital is tighter. Supply chains are under pressure,” he added.

Abang Johari said competitiveness now depends on delivery and discipline, including the ability to execute when conditions are not ideal.

“In this environment, ambition on its own is not enough,” he reiterated.

“Competitiveness is defined by delivery and discipline, and by the ability to execute when conditions are not ideal.”
