KUCHING: In support of Sarawak’s free education initiative, i-CATS University College is set to roll out 12 new technology and TVET-related programmes in stages starting next year.
The university’s vice-chancellor Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohammad Kadim Suadi, said the new offerings will include Bachelor of Technology degrees in specialised fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Energy Engineering, Aviation, and Avionics.
“Some of these courses have already been submitted to the relevant ministry for approval, and so far, three have been granted conditional approval.
“We plan to offer three or four of the programmes in January next year, while the rest will be introduced in stages in March and August 2026,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the Sarawak State Education Initiatives 2025 at i-CATS University College here today.
Earlier in his welcoming speech, he described i-CATS as one of the four universities established by the Sarawak Government to drive the state’s development through education.
“Education is the foundation of any nation or civilisation.
“We must appreciate the state government’s efforts in making education a cornerstone of Sarawak’s progress,” he said.
He further said that i-CATS have also been entrusted to lead two critical fields -Aerospace Engineering and Energy Transition.
“God-willing, we will welcome our first batch of students for the Aerospace Engineering programme this August.
“The first intake for the Energy Transition programme is expected to begin next year,” he added.
In addition, he informed that i-CATS will begin operations at its new campus in Trombol once it is fully completed, along with another additional campus at Tropic City, which will house the implementation of the new programmes.
