KUCHING: The International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) is now a recognised University College after receiving approval from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

“With the recent approval by MOHE, i-CATS is now known as i-CATS University College or i-CATS UC,” said Sarawak Skills executive director and i-CATS managing director Hallman Sabri.

“This momentous milestone heralds a new era for us in our ongoing quest to produce a qualified and competent workforce through continuous learning and development,” he said.

He said this recognition has set the stage of i-CATS University College to develop and offer a wide range of home-grown undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for Malaysian and international students.

“We will also be able to further strengthen our ties with industries in areas such as the integration of Industry Revolution 4.0 technologies, curricula development and enhancement, as well as joint research initiatives,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude for the support from the state and federal governments and i-CATS’ stakeholders, comprising various sectors of industry, parents, alumni, students and staff members.

“This will be a double celebration — Sarawak Skills/i-CATS 23rdconvocation and the official launch of i-CATS University College,” he said.

In preparation for the official launch of i-CATS University College, its management is organising the i-CATS University College Corporate Logo competition. Attractive cash prizes await winners and details will be announced in due course.

With regard to upcoming intakes, i-CATS chief executive officer Mohamad Isham Fauzi said that the university college is having their intake for diploma programmes for January next year.

“Meanwhile, for the March 2021 intake, we will be offering our first home-grown Bachelor in Tourism and Hospitality (Honours) degree programme,” he said.
