ANKARA (Türkiye): i-CATS University College has strengthened its international academic links by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Middle East Technical University (METU), one of the world’s leading institutions in science, engineering and technology.

The signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the 13th Ankara International Aerospace Conference (AIAC’25), hosted by METU from Sept 17 to 19, and marked a historic milestone for i-CATS.

The university college also showcased its research capacity by presenting a paper through its Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the conference.

The MoU will pave the way for collaboration in joint research and innovation projects in aerospace and related disciplines, exchange programmes to enhance cross-cultural learning and academic mobility, professional training and development for staff and students, and industry-driven initiatives aligned with the strategic priorities of Malaysia and Türkiye.

By aligning the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 with METU’s global research reputation, the partnership aims to position i-CATS as a globally connected and industry-relevant institution while strengthening international academic networks.

Board chairman of i-CATS University College Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said the collaboration was a catalyst for transforming Sarawak into a centre of high-technology education and innovation.

“This MoU with METU is not only a symbol of cooperation, but a catalyst for transforming Sarawak into a powerhouse of high-technology education and innovation.

“Through this partnership, our students and researchers will gain global exposure and expertise, strengthening Sarawak’s future as a hub of excellence,” Abdul Aziz said in a statement.

Vice Chancellor Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Kadim Suaidi said the agreement would lay the foundation for impactful research, global talent mobility and industry collaboration.

“i-CATS University College is proud to formalize this strategic partnership with Middle East Technical University. Together, we are laying the foundation for impactful research, global talent mobility, and industry collaboration that will elevate Sarawak’s role in the knowledge economy,” said Kadim.

Meanwhile, METU vice president Professor Dr. Feride Pınar Acar described the collaboration as an opportunity to advance aerospace research and education with lasting global impact.

“Middle East Technical University is proud to collaborate with i-CATS University College in advancing aerospace research and education.

“This partnership strengthens our shared mission to cultivate innovation, talent, and knowledge that will have a lasting impact not only in Türkiye and Sarawak but also globally,” she said.
