i-CATS strengthens role to develop highly skilled workforce

KUCHING: Strengthening its role in developing a highly skilled workforce for Sarawak was the main focus of i-CATS University College’s courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex.

During the visit on Wednesday led by its Pro-Chancellor, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain, the i-CATS delegation presented the institution’s latest developments and strategic direction, including progress toward achieving full university status.

During the meeting, the Premier was briefed on the university college’s growing student enrolment and the introduction of new academic programmes, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The delegation also updated the Premier on the development of i-CATS’ main campus in Trombol, Kuching, which is poised to become a modern and integrated learning hub for the state.

Additionally, i-CATS shared its plans to establish two new faculties: the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering and the Faculty of Energy Transition.

The Aerospace Engineering faculty has taken in its first cohort in August 2025, while the Faculty of Energy Transition will support Sarawak’s vision of advancing a green economy and renewable energy development.

The institution also announced that its 27th Convocation Ceremony will be held on November 8, 2025, at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre, Kuching, underscoring its commitment to producing knowledgeable, competitive, and ethical graduates.
