Iban actor proud of film’s global success

BINTULU: A cast member of indie film, ‘Belaban Hidup: Infeksi Zombie’, Kembuan Thomas, is still surprised but delighted with the film’s recent whirlwind success at the International Symbolic Art Film Festival in St Petersburg, Russia.

Kembuan, 60, Sarawak Gagong Club deputy chairman, with seven other members were invited to act in the film by its director Ray Lee.

“Although we are not the main characters in the film, we are very proud of its achievement,” he said when speaking to reporters yesterday.

Kembuan played multiple roles in the film.

“I played two roles. The first was as the chief of a longhouse and as a warrior protecting the villagers from zombie attacks,” he said.

On the film’s international win, Kembuan feels that it would help promote Sarawak’s culture and heritage especially those of the Iban.

He described the Belaban Hidup: Infeksi Zombie as an interesting film to watch.

The film was produced by Hornbill Films Sdn Bhd and Harry Azzi Entertainment Sdn Bhd.

The film also bagged the Horror and Science Fiction category in the feature film genre at the 2021 Singapore World Film Carnival (WFC) on March 18.

The victory not only caught the attention of Malaysians, but also Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The film was also nominated for the Best Feature Film at the Los Angeles Marina Del Rey Film Festival(LAMDRFF).
