KUALA LUMPUR: A courtesy call by the Kuching Division Iban Community Leaders Welfare Association (PEMAIK) to Parliament today highlighted efforts to enhance collaboration between federal leaders and grassroots communities in Sarawak.
Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the meeting, which he attended with Deputy Minister of Digital, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, provided a platform to exchange views on the role of community leaders in linking federal initiatives with local needs.
He said PEMAIK’s initiative to engage directly with the parliamentary system and governance structures reflected their commitment to building a knowledgeable and progressive community.
“We truly appreciate PEMAIK’s effort to deepen their understanding of Parliament and national governance, a positive move towards empowering communities to be more resilient and well-informed,” he said in a Facebook statement.
Nanta added that the federal government values the contributions of community leaders, noting that their involvement is vital in sustaining unity, development and the spirit of ‘segulai sejalai’ in Sarawak.
The meeting also allowed PEMAIK representatives to share their aspirations and ideas on strengthening welfare, representation and leadership within the Iban community in Kuching.
