KUCHING: The appointment of Satok Assemblyman, Datuk Ibrahim Baki, as Utilities Deputy Minister, who is tasked with overseeing matters related to Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS), has been described as a timely and strategic move by the Sarawak Government.

Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in his opening address at the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today, expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s capabilities and leadership.

“With his extensive background and experience, I am confident he will fulfil his new responsibilities with full dedication and accountability,” said Wan Junaidi.

He congratulated Ibrahim on his appointment, highlighting the significance of the role in tackling local, national, and global challenges in the energy sector.

Ibrahim was sworn into office as Utilities Deputy Minister on March 17.

He brings over thirty years of experience in both the corporate sector and government-linked companies, making him well-placed to contribute meaningfully to Sarawak’s energy and utilities development.

He also recently assumed the role of Vice-President of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), further cementing his leadership stature within the state’s political landscape.

Ibrahim holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons) degree from the United Kingdom and completed his Barrister-at-Law training at Lincoln’s Inn, London.

He began his legal career in 1984 as a legal officer with PETRONAS in Kuala Lumpur.

A year later, he returned to Sarawak and became a founding partner of the law firm, Messrs Idris Buang, Ibrahim Baki & Co, Advocates & Solicitors.

Since 1991, Ibrahim has ventured into multiple business sectors, including property development, shipping, logistics, media services, and business management, further reinforcing his credentials in overseeing major state-linked enterprises such as SEB and PETROS.
