KUCHING: Newly-elected PBB vice president Datuk Ibrahim Baki is expected to re-energise and further solidify support for party president and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) political analyst, Dick Lembang Dugun said Ibrahim along with another new vice president Datuk Len Talif Salleh are both seen as party strongmen, especially Ibrahim, who is the most trusted by the Premier.
“Having supported the Premier for over 40 years in the dynamic of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) politics, Ibrahim could re-energise and strengthen the support towards the Premier,” he told Sarawak Tribune.
He also pointed out that PBB and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), in general, will strengthen their grip on Sarawak politics because there is no credible opposition in today’s political scenario.
He congratulated PBB’s new line-up, hoping they continue to implement the best policies for Sarawak and bring more development to the rural areas that still lag behind.
Meanwhile, political analyst Associate Prof Dr Novel Lyndon said the new leadership line-up represents a strong combination of experienced leaders, aligning well with Sarawak’s goal of becoming a developed state by 2030.
“It is a combination of old faces and new faces that certainly help the development of ideas and thoughts in developing the state of Sarawak.
“It’s also in line with the state’s agenda for development and the people’s wishes.
“In my view, there is no issue of whose team or which side he or she is in this new leadership. This is because the development agenda and the people’s agenda as well as the state’s agenda remain priorities,” he said.
