KUCHING: The monthly Flag-Raising Ceremony of the Ibu Pertiwi was held this morning (Apr 27) at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi to promote patriotism and unity among Sarawakians.

The April edition of the ceremony was officiated by Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and attended by approximately 100 participants.

Organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), the ceremony takes place at 8 am on the first Sunday of every month and is open to the public.

The initiative, launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Jul 28, 2024, has become a meaningful tradition embraced by the community.

Today’s event featured a marching parade by the DBKU Honour Guard Unit and a musical performance by the Prodigy Orchestra.

Over the past months, the ceremony has also been officiated by other leaders including Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The next Flag-Raising Ceremony of the Ibu Pertiwi is scheduled for May 4, and will be officiated by Minister in Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai.

DBKU also encouraged the public to take part in the monthly ceremony as a proud expression of patriotism and love for Sarawak.
