KUCHING: Firefighters and police officers, whose dedication ensures public safety year-round, were honoured at the Ihya Ramadan Programme and Ramadan Contribution Event 1446H.

The event, officiated by Women, Family, and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, took place at the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station today.

Jointly organised by Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM), Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), the Sarawak State Fire Department, and the Sarawak State Fire and Rescue Women’s Association (PERISMA), the programme aimed to recognise the sacrifices of frontline personnel.

Nancy highlighted the invaluable role of these frontliners and presented contributions to firefighters and police officers as a token of appreciation for their selfless service.

“This is more than just assistance; it is a symbol of gratitude for their unwavering sacrifices, often made at great personal risk,” she said.

A total of 160 recipients benefited from the contributions, including 70 under YKN’s ‘Kotak Bakul Makanan Sinar Kasih Ramadan’ initiative and 90 recipients under YADIM’s aid programme.

Additionally, 1,000 portions of ‘bubur asyura’ were distributed as part of the programme.

Nancy also reflected on the significance of Ramadan, describing it as a time for deepening faith, fostering unity, and extending kindness to those in need.

As part of the programme, a ‘bubur asyura’ distribution drive was held, where meals were handed out to road users as a gesture of goodwill.

“I encourage everyone to continue these charitable efforts beyond Ramadan.

“Acts of kindness should not be confined to one month but should become a continuous part of our lives,” she urged.

With Ramadan entering its final ten nights, she reminded attendees of the importance of maximising worship, seeking forgiveness, and striving for self-improvement.
