MIRI: Malaysian enforcement officers have seized almost 449,000 litres of diesel worth more than RM965,000 during a raid on an illegal storage site in Miri.

The illegal diesel storage.

The operation, carried out today by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) with the Royal Malaysia Police, also led to the confiscation of a vessel, a lorry, a four-wheel drive vehicle, storage tanks and other equipment. In total, the haul was valued at RM1.27 million.

KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin said the raid was done following intelligence gathering which uncovered a boat and storehouse operating without licences or permits to handle controlled goods.

The case is being investigated under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for storing controlled goods in unlicensed premises.

Officials said they are currently working to identify those behind the operation, including the source of the diesel and its distribution network.

The ministry warned it would not compromise with anyone involved in fuel-smuggling activities and called on the public to report suspicious dealings through its official channels.
