MIRI: Traffic police have seized 18 illegally modified motorcycles in ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ across several hotspots here overnight.

The operation, which ran from 10 pm on July 12 until 3 am the next day, was conducted at Jalan Bandaraya Miri, Marina Utama, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Tanjung Lobang, and Jalan Canada Hill.

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation aimed to rein in illegal street racing and ensure that all road users adhere to traffic laws.

“Out of 25 vehicles inspected, 18 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for being illegally modified from their original structure.

“In addition, police also checked 30 individuals and issued 61 traffic summonses against motorists for various offences,” he said.

Mohd Farhan said similar operations will continue from time to time, especially targeting motorcyclists.

In light of this, motorists are advised to drive and ride responsibly, avoid engaging in street racing activities, refrain from modifying vehicles illegally, and not loiter by the roadside in groups as it may cause traffic congestion and disturb public peace.

He also warned that such negligence could endanger not only themselves but also other road users.
