KUCHING: Efforts to strengthen border security and safeguard national sovereignty are being intensified through closer cooperation between Sarawak Immigration and Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

As part of this initiative, the AKPS team will be visiting several border entry points across Sarawak from today (June 16) until June 27 to assess on-ground conditions.

The focus includes addressing staffing needs, operational challenges, and asset management to ensure tighter control at state border checkpoints.

Both agencies are working to improve coordination and optimise resources in response to current and emerging border threats.

This collaboration is expected to enhance enforcement capabilities and strengthen frontline readiness across Sarawak’s border areas.

The cooperation began with a working visit today by the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) to the Sarawak Immigration Department.

Sarawak Immigration director Abdul Halim Abang Naili welcomed AKPS Change Management and Training Division director Mulhizam Muhamad and his delegation.

A dialogue session was held during the visit to align strategies and ensure a more effective joint approach to border operations.

The field visits are part of AKPS’s broader effort to gather firsthand insights and support improvements in national border management.
