KUCHING: Immigration officers detained 64 foreign nationals during a two-day integrated enforcement operation carried out across several locations around the city.

The operation on Mar 11 and 12 involved 34 enforcement officers from the Sarawak Immigration Department.

During daytime raids, officers inspected a construction site in Muara Tebas and several eateries in Pending Heights suspected of running online gambling activities.

“Initial inspections found that several foreign nationals were believed to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including not possessing valid travel documents and overstaying,” the department said in a statement.

Enforcement efforts later continued at night with a raid on an entertainment centre in the city.

During the raid, 22 foreign nationals were detained, comprising individuals from China, Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Those detained were taken to the immigration depot for further investigation and action under the relevant immigration laws.
