SARIKEI: Ten undocumented migrants, including a woman, were abruptly awakened from their sleep when immigration officers stormed two hideouts in early morning raids on Tuesday (Sept 23).

The one-hour operation, dubbed Ops Sapu, was carried out at 2.05 am by 12 officers from the Sarikei Immigration Enforcement Unit.

Checks were conducted at two premises — a storage facility beside the Bayong Water Treatment Plant and an unnumbered wooden house near Jalan Sarikei Bypass.

Of the 13 individuals screened, 10 Indonesians – nine men and a woman – were detained after failing to produce valid travel documents.

They were found to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

A police report on the raid was later lodged at Sarikei police station.

The Sarawak Immigration Department said similar enforcement operations will be carried out from time to time to curb the presence and activities of undocumented foreigners in the state.
