KUCHING: A two-day enforcement operation across the city saw immigration officers net 42 foreign nationals suspected of violating immigration laws.
Held from Jan 27 to 28, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division deployed 31 officers to flush out undocumented foreigners believed to be living and working in the city.
Among the locations targeted were a cement factory in Kampung Sandong, rented houses in Kampung Kudei, workers’ quarters at Metrocity construction site, and several food outlets along Jalan Semarak, Gita.
Some of the premises were also suspected of being linked to online gambling activities and of employing foreign workers illegally.
Several suspects attempted to flee and hide during inspections, but officers swiftly sealed off the areas and thwarted the attempts.
Those detained are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said enforcement operations will continue to ensure compliance with immigration laws and to safeguard public order and security
