SARIKEI: Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has emphasised the importance of digital education and environmental awareness
Speaking to educators, students, and parents at the SMK St Anthony Sarikei Excellence Ceremony today, Huang, who is also Sarikei MP and Repok assemblyman praised the school’s commitment to embracing digital pedagogy in teaching and learning.
“Digital education policy is a key component of the modern educational agenda. I understand that the teachers here have made exceptional use of digital tools in their classrooms. Congratulations to them—keep up the excellent work,” he said.
He stressed the importance of continuously evolving teaching methods to ensure students receive a well-rounded and high-quality education.
“Diversifying teaching techniques and mastering content is crucial in producing quality students. Our education must provide added value. The good must be acknowledged, and we must strive for improvement,” he added.
In his capacity as deputy minister, Huang also encouraged schools to adopt environmental sustainability initiatives.
He suggested programmes such as “Jom Beli Produk Hijau” (Let’s Buy Green Products), environmental awareness days, e-waste recycling campaigns, and clean-up events to instil a sense of responsibility for natural resource conservation among students.
“Raising awareness about environmental conservation is critical for the country’s sustainable development,” he noted.
Highlighting the federal government’s commitment to education, Huang revealed that RM64.1 billion has been allocated to ensure quality education nationwide.
He assured the audience of his dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure in Sarikei and Repok through initiatives like the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and Minor Rural Project (MRP).
Huang also introduced the Student Personality Development Programme, which provides school uniforms, bags, and shoes to students in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency.
“These efforts aim to support the aspirations of the Sarikei District Education Office in achieving the vision of ‘Sarikei Number 1’,” he said.
The event served as a platform to celebrate academic excellence while highlighting the intersection of education and sustainability, with Huang’s address inspiring both students and teachers to embrace progress and responsibility.
