BATU Danau Assemblyman, Datuk Paulus Palu Gumbang, proposed that the state government consider improving sections of logging roads in affected village areas to enhance travel comfort and safety for the local community.
The unique geography of Limbang and Lawas, which are separated from the rest of Sarawak by Brunei Darussalam, continues to pose logistical challenges for residents.
“Road users in Limbang and Lawas must pass through Brunei to reach other parts of Sarawak, and Brunei’s Customs Immigration Quarantine and Security (CIQS) facilities only operate between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm,” he said.

He said this during his debate in support of the motion of appreciation for the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s speech in the State Legislative Assembly today.
“The state’s efforts on the Sarawak Sabah Link Road Phase 2 (SSLR2) a project that will connect Lawas, Limbang and Miri directly, without needing to transit through Brunei.
“With this new road, travel between Lawas, Limbang and Miri will be far more convenient. Construction has already begun and is progressing well in the Ulu Limbang area,” he said.
Another critical issue raised was the stalled construction of the Long Napir Clinic, intended to serve Penan and Kelabit communities in Ulu Limbang.
Despite undergoing two separate rounds of tendering and partial construction, the project remains incomplete.
He also reiterated his call for a new waterfront in Kampung Batu Danau, near the site of the annual Pesta Babulang and buffalo race.
While Limbang town and Medamit are already receiving waterfront upgrades, he emphasized the potential of the Batu Danau site as a hub for cultural celebrations, business, and water-based tourism.
“This waterfront is essential not only for Pesta Babulang but for other community events like mini regattas and economic activity,” he added.
“It would also enhance the traditional reception of dignitaries arriving by raft,”he said.
