KUCHING: Singer-songwriter Imran Ajmain, whose music has accompanied Malaysian audiences for more than two decades through emotionally driven hits and drama soundtracks, will make his concert debut in Borneo with ‘Imran Ajmain in Malam Seribu Tahun Live’ in Miri on February 13.
The concert will be held at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club, marking a new touring milestone following Imran’s previous solo performances in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Singapore.
Organised by Front Row, the decision to stage the concert in Miri was driven by the city’s strategic location and Imran’s strong following in northern Sarawak and neighbouring Brunei.
Executive Director of Front Row, Zaid Zaini, who spoke to reporters after the conclusion of Kavin Jay’s comedy show, said Imran’s catalogue of songs, many of which became widely recognised through television drama soundtracks, continues to resonate naturally with audiences across different age groups.
He said Miri was selected as the starting point due to its accessibility and regional pull, particularly its proximity to Brunei and its ability to draw audiences from surrounding areas.
Zaid noted that Imran, who has released five albums over a career spanning more than 20 years, remains highly engaged with fans on social media, with a significant portion of his supporters coming from northern Sarawak and Brunei.
He said while Imran’s concert setlist follows a familiar structure, the singer is known for adapting each performance to reflect the place he is performing in.
“For Sarawak, he has chosen to include songs by Sarawak artistes, and one of the pieces he is preparing incorporates elements of the Sarawak language,” Zaid said.
He added that this personalised approach reflects Imran’s effort to create a closer and more meaningful connection with local audiences.
Zaid described Imran’s performance style as intimate and interactive, noting that the singer frequently engages directly with fans during his shows.
“He is very approachable, and the interaction is what makes the experience feel personal,” he said.
Ticket sales for the Miri concert have been encouraging so far, with Zaid revealing that close to 40 per cent of purchases have come from Brunei-based fans.
He added that the choice of venue allows flexibility in accommodating demand while maintaining audience comfort.
Zaid said Front Row remains committed to delivering high-quality productions, citing the organiser’s track record with previous concerts featuring international acts.
“We take the responsibility seriously because audiences come expecting more than just a performance,” he said.
He added that Imran’s upcoming concert reflects Front Row’s emphasis on calibre, consistency and audience satisfaction.
Zaid also acknowledged the support of local authorities and tourism-related agencies, including the Miri City Council, which he said has been instrumental in facilitating large-scale entertainment events in the city.
With ‘Imran Ajmain in Malam Seribu Tahun Live’ in Miri, Imran’s long-awaited appearance in Borneo is expected to draw fans from across Sarawak and the surrounding region, further strengthening Miri’s position as a growing destination for live entertainment.
