
SIBU: The Sibu International BASE Jump has now attracted jumpers from around the world. It is now an event that jumpers from around the world look forward to every year. Ilya Szarek from Canada praises the organiser and also the local folks for their warmth, friendliness and hospitality.
“They really make me feel very much at home – they’re treating us like family,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday. He said this was his second time he was joining the Sibu International BASE Jump. “I first joined the event last year.
And I love it as Wisma Sanyan is an excellent building to jump from, although it is a bit challenging,” he said. Wisma Sanyan is the state’s tallest building. Ilya also said that through the event, he was able to meet friends from around the world. Meanwhile, fellow BASE jumper, Michelle Kaszper said she loved the wide varieties of local food here.
“The people here are very fortunate because they are blessed with so many kinds of food, representing the various ethnic groups.
“When I first tasted the food here, I was like ‘wow!’ – each and every taste was unique. I just love them all,” said Michelle, who is also from Canada. Both jumpers have expressed their intention to come back here next year for the 11th Sibu International BASE Jump.
The tenth edition of Sibu BASE Jump started on September 20 and will end today. The jumpers were a hit with locals who rushed to take photographs with them at the event.
