KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is planning to bring the proposed amendment to include ‘consent from the state’ in the Law Ordinance to the committee stage.

In disclosing this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that adding ‘consent from the state’ in the law is important so that the national law will not bulldoze the state’s own law.

“We have our own labour ordinance which is aligned with the national ones and the national ones must be aligned with the International Labour Law of the United Nations.

“That is why, when the federal government wants to amend the Labour Law, they need to also amend and put the words ‘consent from the states’.

“Although the state basically has the same labour laws as the national ones, there is still a need to consult the state government and get consent from the states so that what law we have will not be bulldozed,” he said.

He said this during the town hall session in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2023 programme held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here yesterday.

Following this, he emphasised that it is important to protect the rights that Sarawak has.

“We need to take care of ourselves and protect our rights.

“When it comes to the amendment of labour law, we agree to it. All we ask is to add the word ‘consent’ in it,” he said.
