KUCHING: Membership in the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Kuching Branch has risen from 511 in 2,024 to 553 this year, reflecting continued public confidence in the organisation’s work.

Chairwoman Datuk Seri Sharifah Mordiah Fauzi highlighted the growth during PERKIM’s 36th Annual General Meeting at Dewan Hikmah, Petra Jaya here on Saturday.

“Our focus remains on empowering Muslim women through meaningful religious programmes while collaborating with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), mosques and educational institutions to engage the younger generation,” she said.

On the welfare front, Sharifah Mordiah noted that PERKIM continued to support the elderly and single mothers through financial aid, emergency assistance and festive contributions during Ramadan and Aidilfitri.

She also expressed gratitude to members, volunteers, government agencies, NGOs, mosques and media partners for their continued support.

Despite challenges such as limited funding and manpower, she expressed confidence that PERKIM Kuching would continue to strengthen its role in the community.

Looking ahead, she said PERKIM aims to enhance programmes under its three core pillars; dakwah, education and welfare, increase youth participation and leverage social media for more effective outreach.

“With unity, sincerity and teamwork, we hope all our efforts will be accepted as acts of worship and blessed by Allah SWT,” she said.

During the event, PERKIM made welfare contributions to two needy families, underscoring its ongoing commitment to social responsibility.

The AGM, attended by 250 members, also reviewed the organisation’s annual achievements, outlined long-term plans and strengthened fellowship among members.
