NEW DELHI: The Indian cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a pact between the company secretary bodies of India and Malaysia to raise professional standards, and facilitate the movement of company secretaries in the Asia-Pacific region, a government statement said on Wednesday.

The Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries (MACS) and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) have a memorandum of understanding (MoU) “to strengthen cooperation and raise the status and prestige” of the company secretary profession in both jurisdictions.

They also seek to encourage cross-border movement of company secretaries in Asia.

MACS is an independent and self-regulating professional body and ICSI works to develop and regulate the profession of company secretaries in India.

India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs, under whose jurisdiction ICSI works, had approved a request of the MACS in 2017 to adopt the Indian secretarial standards as the benchmark in developing its own professional rules. – Bernama
