KUCHING: Following the successful three-day Borneo Odyssey Ride, Sarawak Cycling Association’s President, Irawan Sudarsono, “can’t wait” for the next one, as Indonesian riders explored Sarawak.

“I’m sure there’ll be more rides such as these, and we can’t wait for the next one.

“Hopefully a mutual agreement could be reached between the two countries to make it easier for rides from Malaysia into Indonesia,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted recently.

He described the odyssey as “wholesome” and said it was a pleasant experience welcoming and guiding the riders throughout their journey.

Organised by Indonesia’s Panthers Cycling Club, the event brought together 17 cyclists of all ages, from teenagers to pensioners, for a three-day cross-border and urban ride from Feb 9 to 11, 2026.

Covering an estimated 555 kilometres, the tour highlighted Sarawak’s highways, city streets, heritage landmarks, and scenic routes.

Irawan also pointed out that careful preparation is key for future rides, suggesting a three-month head start to plan logistics, route variations, hotel bookings, entertainment, and coordination with police and marshals to ensure a smooth experience for all participants.

The first day of the odyssey saw riders start at ICQS Biawak, Aruk, cycling along Jalan Biawak, Pan Borneo Highway, Jalan Sempadi, and major Kuching roads including Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Kulas, Jalan Satok, and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, before finishing at Merdeka Palace Hotel.

On Feb 10, riders completed a 30-kilometre city loop beginning and ending at Merdeka Palace Hotel, passing Jalan Barrack, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Pelabuhan, Jalan Bako, and the Astana, with stops at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi Sarawak and key roundabouts before returning via Darul Hana Bridge.

The final leg on Feb 11 led participants from Merdeka Palace Hotel to the Tebedu border, passing Serian, with pit stops near Roxy Hotel and Taman Selera Puspa Indah, before completing the odyssey.

The flag-off to conclude the three-day odyssey was made by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.
