SRI AMAN: An Indonesian man was fined RM10,000 or nine months’ jail by the Sessions Court here for attempting to smuggle four subsidised gas cylinders out of Sarawak last September.

Dedi Ahkiong pleaded guilty when the charge was read before Judge Intan Nurul Farena Zainal Abidin.

According to the charge sheet, the accused attempted to transport four subsidised LPG cylinders without a licence near the Malaysia-Indonesia border road in Lubok Antu at about 7:30 pm on September 16.

He was charged under Section 20(8) of the Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016 (Chapter 72), read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code.

A General Operations Force team detained the man near the border road on the day of the incident, before seizing two PETRONAS LPG cylinders and two PETROS LPG cylinders in his possession.

The prosecution was handled by Prosecuting Officers, Johny Ikau and Paddril Peter. The accused was not represented.

Earlier, at the same court, Dedi was also sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for entering Malaysia without a valid permit under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
