KUCHING: Local influencer Yi Pin has lodged a police report after discovering that one of her livestream videos was stolen and manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) to falsely promote an illegal online gambling website.
The altered video, which made it appear as though she endorsed the gambling platform, has been widely circulated across social media and online advertisements.
“I have never been involved in any gambling activities, let alone promote them. Such an act has tarnished my reputation and dignity,” said Yi Pin.
She was accompanied by International Legacy Education Foundation founding chairman Wynson Ong Teck Ping when filing the report at Sungai Maong police station yesterday (Jul 30).
Yi said the police report was necessary to protect herself, call for an immediate investigation, and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Meanwhile, Ong added that they will also lodge a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to request the immediate removal of the manipulated video and related content.
The public has been advised not to trust online ads or social media posts featuring celebrities or influencers — especially those promoting gambling or investment schemes — without verifying their authenticity.
Anyone who comes across suspicious ads, is urged to take screenshots and report them to the police or MCMC, and avoid clicking on unfamiliar links to protect themselves from scams or potential data breaches.
