LAWAS: The district is experiencing rapid development with several large scale projects led by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS), Sarawak Energy Bhd and Amalgamated.

Lawas Member of Parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong highlighted key projects, including the construction of a highway, two major bridges over the Lawas River, a new airport, and a deep sea port, all aimed at boosting connectivity and economic expansion.

“Lawas’ strategic location, surrounded by Brunei and Indonesia while bordering Sabah, makes it an ideal hub for development,” he said.

He was speaking during the Iftar Ramadan Programme hosted by PETRONAS Sabah Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) in collaboration with Sarawak Energy at Kampung Ladang Baru on Wednesday.

He expressed gratitude for the continuous support from government agencies and private companies, emphasising that these partnerships would bring long-term benefits to the community.

Meanwhile, PETRONAS SSGP’s Head of Operations Support, Shamad Ahmad, noted that the event aimed to strengthen ties between PETRONAS, government agencies, business partners and the local community, particularly those involved in the SSGP Pipeline project.

The programme also served as a platform for giving back, with 75 underprivileged individuals and orphans from Lawas receiving Ramadan contributions from PETRONAS.

In a further show of support for the community, Henry announced a RM20,000 donation to Kampung Ladang Baru, earmarked for upgrading the community hall and other essential needs
