MERADONG: Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has expressed concern over infrastructure issues in Meradong.
Huang, the Member of Parliament for Sarikei and assemblyman for Repok, took immediate action by contacting the Sarikei Division Department of Irrigation and Drainage to address the flooding issue after receiving feedback from the longhouse residents.
“Thank you to the Sarikei Division Department of Irrigation and Drainage for its cooperation in improving the basic infrastructure in Meradong and for its continuous efforts in resolving issues affecting the well-being of the people,” said Huang through a press release yesterday (Feb 28).
“Several sections of the road leading to Rumah Panjang Regina Sungai Selidap experienced flooding due to the recent rainy season,” he said.
He stated that based on site inspections, the rising river water level had caused water to overflow onto the road, disrupting traffic. Two longhouses in the area, comprising a total of 28 households, were affected by the flood.
A site visit was conducted together with the service centre team of the P208 Sarikei representative, officers from the Sarikei Division Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Tuai Rumah Regina Kumjum, and local residents.
Also present were Gung Chiu Kion, representing Huang as well as Regina and Faliana Mia, officers from the Sarikei Division Department of Irrigation and Drainage.
