KUCHING: Continued investment in infrastructure will be key to sustaining the growth of the Sejijak Regatta in the years ahead, said Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
In an interview on the sidelines of the 2026 Sejijak Regatta today (July 11), Fazzrudin said competition at the event had grown steadily each year, both in terms of the number of categories and team participation, including the 30-man boat race category.
He pointed to the state government’s approval of the Sejijak waterfront project as a step towards supporting this growth.
“We hope the implementation of this project can be carried out well, not only for the Sejijak Regatta, but also for the safety of the riverbanks and houses in the Sejijak area,” he said.
Fazzruddin also highlighted how drone technology had transformed the way the boat racing community followed the event, with live broadcasts now reaching fans across the state via Facebook for the second or third consecutive year.
He said the drone broadcasts, shared live on the Pemuda PBB N6 Tupong Facebook page, had made it easier for boat racing fans throughout Sarawak to follow the action remotely, building on earlier years when the event could only be followed through conventional live coverage.
He said the Sejijak Regatta continued to serve as one of the key warm-up events for teams preparing for the Sarawak Regatta, Sarawak’s premier boat racing competition, with participation increasing year after year.
