BAU: A missing Indonesian man is believed to be located about 20m below Mount Tabai here, following a preliminary survey today (Aug 28).
Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas confirmed this when met by reporters at the district police headquarters.
She revealed that a team consisting of a firefighter, a villager, and two Indonesians, said to be family members of the missing man, entered the hole to survey the area.
“We currently do not know what is happening down there or the condition inside.
“By estimation, the missing man’s location is believed to be 20m deep in the mountain, which may take about five minutes to reach.
“However, I did not confirm that a dead body has been found; that is not my statement,” she said.
Yoga Anggiska, 26, has been missing since Aug 13 following an alleged mining incident.
DSP Jawai also shared that they were initially unable to commence a search and rescue (SAR) operation when informed by the Indonesian Consulate General on Aug 23.
“We had no witnesses who could pinpoint the victim’s last known location, which is why we were unable to take immediate action.
“Nonetheless, we have now received information from villagers that may guide our search efforts,” she said.
In light of this incident, she urged the public not to spread speculation or hearsay on social media as such claims are unfounded.
As of 3pm, the operation to locate the missing Indonesian was temporarily postponed due to bad weather.
