BINTULU: In an effort to ensure smoother funeral arrangements — particularly at night — Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee, through the N67 Jepak Constituency Service Centre, has contributed essential equipment to local funeral management volunteers in the area.
The contribution includes a generator set, lighting equipment, cooking gas, tents, and burial tools such as hoes and shovels. These were handed over to the Kampung Jepak Grave-Digging Volunteers, a group comprising local youth and fathers who actively assist in handling burials for residents.
According to Iskandar, the donation is part of an ongoing initiative to support community-led efforts in managing funeral rites more systematically and effectively, especially for deaths occurring at night.
“We recognise that one of the main challenges in handling nighttime funerals is the lack of lighting and basic equipment. With this contribution, we hope to ease the volunteers’ burden and provide some comfort to grieving families,” he said after officiating at a brief handover ceremony for the equipment at the Jepak Petanque Arena yesterday.
The initiative also received strong cooperation from village chiefs and local community leaders, who actively identify needs and coordinate assistance within their respective areas.
Iskandar added that similar efforts would be extended to other areas in need, including Kuala Tatau, Segan, Kemunting, and several other villages.
“God willing, this is just the beginning. We are committed to ensuring that logistical needs for funeral management are met throughout the Jepak constituency,” he said.
