JAKARTA, Indonesia: The number of people injured in the 6.4-magnitude earthquake off Pacitan, East Java, early on Friday has increased to 40, while 224 people have been affected, according to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre head, Abdul Muhari, said based on the situation report as at 5.00 pm on Friday, the quake impacted three provinces and five districts.
“In East Java Province, 29 houses, one educational facility, and one village hall were affected. In Central Java Province, 18 houses, five educational facilities, and one unit each of a place of worship, a health facility and a public facility were reported affected.
“Meanwhile, in Yogyakarta, eight houses were reported affected, along with government, educational, health and religious facilities,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Abdul Muhari said emergency response operations and further data collection were still ongoing, adding that BNPB has been conducting intensive monitoring and coordination with provincial and district disaster management agencies (BPBD) in the affected areas.
He said BNPB has provided coordination support, strengthened the emergency response command system, and ensured the readiness of resource support in line with needs on the ground. – BERNAMA
