BINTULU: Integrity, transparency, and accountability must be the cornerstone of every aspect of public administration to ensure continued public trust in the government.
He stated that values such as integrity, transparency, and accountability are not just slogans, but must be embedded in the daily work culture, especially among civil servants who are the backbone of public service delivery.
“Without integrity, the service delivery system will be compromised, and the people will ultimately bear the consequences. Transparency and accountability are a shared responsibility, not just the duty of leaders,” he said.
He said this when delivering the keynote address at the Integrity Mandate Ceremony organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) on Wednesday.
More than 350 BDA staff participated in the effort to strengthen awareness and commitment towards good governance practices at every level of the organisation.
Abdul Ghafur also emphasised that the challenges of maintaining integrity have become increasingly complex in today’s digital-driven world where information spreads rapidly.
“Today’s society is more aware and informed. Therefore, every action we take must be defensible not only from a legal standpoint but also from an ethical perspective,” he added.
He also urged all civil servants to uphold the dignity of public service by avoiding abuse of power and practices that could harm the integrity of the department.
Also present at the event were BDA deputy chairman, Datuk Haidar Khan Asgar Khan, and BDA general manager, Datuk Muhamad Yakup Kari.
The ceremony served as an important platform to cultivate awareness and commitment among BDA staff in fostering a culture of good governance in line with BDA’s commitment to implement good governance at all levels of the organisation.
