KUCHING: The recent formalisation of a collaborative programme between the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS), Kuching and the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Kuala Lumpur has paved the way for students from Sarawak, Sabah and abroad to pursue MJIIT-UTM’s KL Bachelor’s degree programmes in Engineering.
The programmes will include an exciting option for students to complete their industrial training component in Japan.
On the collaborative programme, i-CATS chief executive officer (CEO) Mohamad Isham Fauzi highlighted: “The degree programmes, namely the Bachelor of Electronic Systems Engineering and Bachelor of Mechanical Precision Engineering are offered by MJIIT-UTM KL.
“MJIIT was established in 2010 as a joint venture between the governments of Malaysia and Japan to offer a Japanese-style education at the MJIIT-UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus. It is the first Japanese Oriented Engineering Education in Malaysia.
“Students would be able to complete the first year of the aforementioned Bachelor’s degree programmes at the i-CATS Campus in Kuching. The students would then continue their studies from Year Two to Four at MJIIT-UTM’s Campus in Kuala Lumpur.
“Under MJIIT-UTM KL Global Mobility Programme, students would be able to spend a semester in Japan. Indeed, the opportunity to do one’s industrial training in Japan will enable each student to benefit from industry best practices and acquire a global perspective in his or her field. This will also give students a competitive edge when they enter the working world.”
He added students could choose to undergo industrial training at Japanese companies in Malaysia. With the first intake scheduled in January and September 2019, registration of new students for the aforementioned degree programmes is ongoing.
