KUCHING: Sarawak’s ability to host major international sporting events continues to receive positive feedback from visiting officials, with the state currently staging the 2026 IBF World Youth Championships in Kuching.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, said the ongoing tournament from June 27 to July 7 at Megalanes Sarawak, E-Mart Batu Kawa, has drawn strong participation from international contingents and praise from association leaders.

He said he has been engaging with presidents and officials from various bowling associations who have expressed satisfaction with Sarawak’s organisation and hospitality.

“I’ve been meeting all the presidents of the associations from other countries, and they have very good comments about Sarawak,” he told reporters after officiating the Sarawak Shogun Workshop at Sarawak Sports Village today.

Rentap said the state’s success in hosting international events strengthens its position as a regional sports hub and provides valuable exposure for local athletes.

He added that Sarawak will continue to host a series of major competitions, including the 23rd Sarawak Premier’s Cup – International Junior Golf Championship in Miri, and then head to Selangor for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

“After bowling, we have golf in Miri for the Premier’s Cup, and after that comes SUKMA. So there are many games happening,” he said.

He also expressed hope that more international tournaments will be brought to Sarawak to benefit local athletes and elevate the state’s sporting profile.

“We hope to have more international tournaments here so our athletes can compete at a higher level,” he said.

Also present was Sarawak Sports Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mu’azamir Jili.
