KUCHING: Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment and Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, has met with several companies in Tokyo, Japan, keen to explore opportunities in digital and green investment, particularly in green ammonia.
In a press statement on August 12, Awang Tengah held discussions with a digital company interested in pursuing data-based investments in Sarawak.
The proposed project is currently undergoing a feasibility study.
Additionally, he also met with US-based First Ammonia, which is collaborating with Danish technology leader Topsoe, to discuss plans for developing a next-generation green ammonia production facility in Sarawak, aiming to support the state’s Hydrogen Economy Roadmap.
In welcoming the proposed investments, Awang Tengah emphasised that the companies should align with Sarawak’s development agenda and deliver mutual benefits for both investors and the state.
“The proposed investment should create a win-win benefit for both Japan and Sarawak by delivering lasting value through job creation, technology transfer, skills development, and economic spin-offs that will benefit local suppliers, contractors, and communities,” the statement said.
These engagements reflect Sarawak’s proactive approach in attracting high-value investments that strengthen its position as a hub for sustainable and technology-driven industries.
