KOTA PADAWAN: Intervention classes will be provided for juvenile students at Sekolah Integriti and Sekolah Henry Gurney who are troubled by learning difficulties or dyslexia.
The Ministry of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Well-being Development said it is ready to continue its collaboration with the Sarawak Prisons Department on this matter.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said she has requested the department to identify such students, if any, and that the ministry will assist in terms of funding.
“We will work on providing payment for the teachers because these intervention classes are crucial in helping the affected students,” she said after attending the 2025 Ziarah Sumbangsih Raya Session at Puncak Borneo Prison today.
Fatimah, who is also an advisor to the Sarawak Dyslexia Association, stated that the association will be involved in conducting the intervention classes.
“The intervention programme has been implemented for the past two years and has successfully helped students with learning difficulties.
“I am grateful to the Sarawak Prisons Department for accepting this excellent programme, as it provides a second chance for these individuals to receive an education, with some even managing to pursue tertiary education,” she said.
Fatimah stated that her ministry and the Sarawak Prisons Department are also collaborating on the Low-Income Family Empowerment (LIFE) programme, providing capital assistance for income-generating activities to individuals involved in social issues, as prioritised by the Social Development Council.
Meanwhile, a total of 450 containers have been donated to the department for the Sumbangsih Raya 2025 programme as a token of appreciation to the staff and officers for their dedication and commitment in carrying out their duties, especially during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.
