KUCHING: Four vocational college students were ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to be bound over for good behaviour for six months for intimidating a fellow student by threatening to harm him.

The incident stemmed from allegations that the victim had badmouthed the girlfriend of one of the accused.

According to the facts of the case, the incident took place on October 17 at around 11:40 am at a college hall in Matang, where the 17-year-old complainant was confronted and pushed by the four accused, all of whom he knew.

It was alleged that the victim had insulted the girlfriend of one of the accused by saying she “smelled bad”.

During the confrontation, the first accused warned the complainant that he would be beaten up anytime should he continue to “disturb” his girlfriend.

The complainant, however, denied the accusation, claiming he did not even know the girlfriend in question.

Fearing for his safety, he later lodged a police report.

Police arrested all four suspects at the college on October 21 at around 11:00 am.

Investigations found that all four accused, aged 18, had intentionally caused fear to the victim by uttering threats and physically pushing him during the incident.

To prevent similar incidents from recurring, Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan ordered the four to be bound over for good behaviour for six months with a bond of RM2,000 each, with their parents acting as sureties.

During proceedings, all accused nodded in understanding after a charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code was read before them.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin conducted the case, while all accused were unrepresented.
