KUCHING: Malaysian deep-tech startup NanoSkunkWorkx has raised US$2 million to push its graphene-copper technology closer to commercial use, including applications aimed at tackling the growing heat challenge facing artificial intelligence chips.
Tin Men Capital is leading the funding round, which will support semiconductor qualification, process scaling and expansion into hydrogen and diagnostics.
At the heart of NanoSkunkWorkx’s technology are graphene-copper films designed to transfer heat more efficiently than conventional copper.
Peer-reviewed research found that the films transferred heat more than twice as effectively as the copper baseline used in the study, potentially offering a new approach to thermal management in increasingly powerful semiconductor systems.
The startup is now working towards semiconductor qualification while moving into early commercialisation.
It has launched three product lines and generated its first revenue, achieving both milestones with less than US$1.5 million in cumulative external pre-seed capital.
NanoSkunkWorkx was founded by former NASA principal investigator Dr Amani Salim and MIT-trained computer scientist and former Morgan Stanley vice-president Iqbal Shamsul.
