SEBUYAU: Once a riverside village only reachable by boat, Sebuyau is fast transforming into a strategic hub along Sarawak’s coast, thanks to concerted government investment and infrastructure development.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan highlighted the town’s remarkable evolution over the past decades.
“Who would have thought that today Sebuyau is the site of Malaysia’s longest bridge under construction, a great honour for this area,” he said at the opening of Sebuyau Regatta 2025 today.
He noted that modern amenities, including upgraded roads, electricity, water supply, and strategic coastal road connections, have positioned Sebuyau to become a potential stopover town for tourists and investors.
“The development opens significant opportunities for the local economy, ranging from small enterprises and homestays to the fishing industry and river tourism, which are increasingly gaining attention,” he added.
Awang Tengah emphasised that the progress achieved was the result of close collaboration between the government, community leaders, and residents.
He also shared that the government plans to further enhance the physical infrastructure and appeal of Sebuyau town to make it a prime destination for visitors and investors.
“Sebuyau will emerge as a strategic town and a major stopover destination along Sarawak’s coast,” he said.
The regatta, which drew enthusiastic participation from the community, not only celebrated local sportsmanship but also served as a showcase of Sebuyau’s ongoing transformation.
