SARIKEI: The ‘Construction Industry Fair 2025: Constructing The Future’ seminar, organised by the Sibu branch office of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) here, opened up important collaboration opportunities to empower local contractors and the construction community in central Sarawak.

Tanjong Manis Member of Parliament and CIDB Malaysia Chairman, Yusuf Abdul Wahab, described it as a strategic move in bringing the development of the construction industry to rapidly growing rural areas like Sarikei.

“Sarikei is a fast-developing district with great potential in the construction sector, entrepreneurship and human capital development.

“The involvement of local contractors is crucial in realising the development agenda of the state and the nation,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the opening ceremony of the ‘Construction Industry Fair 2025’ Seminar held at the Kampung Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall here on Thursday.

He also emphasised the need to improve compliance with industry standards and enhance the competitiveness of companies through valid registration and rating under CIDB.

He added that understanding aspects such as Act 520, the SCORE rating system, and the Bumiputera Status Certificate is vital to ensure the sustainability and resilience of local companies in facing a challenging market.

The seminar also featured briefing sessions by the Malaysia Construction Academy (ABM), as well as exhibition booths by strategic agencies.

According to Yusuf, the presence of these various agencies reflects a strong commitment to supporting the holistic development of the construction industry, including involvement from youth, entrepreneurs, and job seekers.

“I urge all participants to take full advantage of this opportunity to gain information, build networks, and strengthen industry collaboration,” he stressed.
