SINGAPORE: Former Transport Minister S. Iswaran has been placed on home detention, local media reported Friday, four months after receiving a 12-month prison sentence.
Iswaran, 62, was jailed on Oct 3, 2024, after pleading guilty to four counts of accepting valuable items as a public servant and one count of obstruction of justice.
He began serving his sentence on Oct 7.
The Singapore Prison Service (SPS) told The Straits Times that Iswaran qualified for home detention as he is considered low-risk, has committed no prison offences, and has strong family support.
Under the scheme, eligible prisoners may be placed on home detention after serving at least 14 days or half their sentence, whichever is later.
Suitability is assessed based on conduct, rehabilitation progress, and other factors, SPS said.
Iswaran will complete his sentence at home under strict conditions, including curfew monitoring via an electronic tag, work or study obligations, and mandatory counselling sessions. – BERNAMAIswaran placed on home detention
