KUCHING: National hammer thrower Jackie Wong has marked his return to the Borneo Games after 13 years by leading the Athletes’ Oath at the opening ceremony of the Games here tonight (Sept 24).

The 187cm Sarikei-born athlete last competed in the Borneo Games in 2011 and said he was proud to once again represent Sarawak.

“I am extremely proud to be back representing Sarawak, my homeland, after 13 years. I want to contribute significantly and, hopefully, bring back gold for Sarawak,” he added.

Jackie, a three-time SEA Games gold medallist (2017, 2021 and 2023), has also represented Sarawak in hammer throw at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

“To me, the Borneo Games is an important preparation ahead of the SEA Games in Thailand later this year.

“Together, let us give spirit and encouragement to all Sarawak athletes. I also hope Sarawak can emerge overall champions at these Games,” Jackie told the Sarawak Tribune.

Apart from competing, Jackie is also serving as coach for the Sarawak athletics squad.
