SARIKEI: The Jakar town interchange stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak is now fully open to road users, ahead of the anticipated Hari Gawai Dayak travel rush.

TVS reported that the newly completed segment is part of Work Package Contract 06 (WPC06), which covers the Bukit Sebangkoi and Sarikei sections, including the busy intersection at Jakar town.

Quoting Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) Director, Dr Cassidy Morris, the report said both sections are now operating as a four-lane dual carriageway, offering smoother travel and improved connectivity for the public.

“This full opening is expected to ease traffic and provide greater comfort, especially for those travelling back to their hometowns for the Gawai festivities,” he said during a visit to the Jakar stretch on Sunday.

He also reminded motorists to follow traffic rules for everyone’s safety.

“Please observe the speed limits and make U-turns properly,” he said.

The Pan Borneo Highway project is one of the government’s key initiatives to enhance Sarawak’s road infrastructure and support rural socioeconomic development.
