DEBAK: A RM35-million rural road linking three villages here was officially named Jalan Lubok Tamang today, improving connectivity for about 3,000 residents.
The 9.5-kilometre tar-sealed road connects Kampung Suri to Kampung Manggut and Kampung Tuie and was completed in April 2023.
The project included the construction of two bridges across Sungai Jerai and Sungai Lubok Selubang, helping to shorten travel time while enhancing accessibility in surrounding rural areas.
The naming ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the road junction here.
Earlier, he received a briefing on the project from Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) Director, Datuk Cassidy Morris, before unveiling the Jalan Lubok Tamang signboard.
The road is also expected to serve as a key access route to the proposed Lubok Tamang Agropark, a 763-hectare integrated development expected to strengthen the Saribas area’s modern agriculture sector.
During the visit, the Premier was also briefed on the agropark project by Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) General Manager, Datuk Zaidi Mahdi.
The agropark will include agricultural zones, a tourism component, processing and collection centres, and future development areas, with pandan coconut identified as the main crop.
Once operational, the project is expected to produce up to 10 million coconuts annually, boosting export potential while reducing reliance on imports.
Implementation under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) initiative is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with planting to be carried out in phases over 20 months.
